Bringing innovative new technologies and operational concepts to life

In the Robotics and Space Operations arena, MDA is hard at work developing the Canadarm3, an iconic, next-generation artificial intelligence(AI)-enabled robotic system designed for the Lunar Gateway — a NASA-led Moon-orbiting space station — in partnership with the Canadian Space Agency. The project is contributing world-leading Canadian technology and operational expertise to this international space exploration endeavour — a once-in-a-lifetime prospect for up-and-coming engineers.
The most advanced space robotics system ever built, Canadarm3 will include a full robotics system, comprised of a large robotic arm, a small robotic arm, specialized tools for performing maintenance and science tasks, robotic interfaces, ground control systems, and AI-based control and mission planning software.
In other areas of MDA’s business, the company is seeing a similar need to bring on many new employees to support technology development for new projects.

In the geointelligence business area, MDA recently announced that it has initiated the development of a next-generation Earth observation satellite mission to provide continuity and enhancements to its world-leading RADARSAT-2 satellite. This innovative mission, which will be developed in Richmond, BC, and Montreal, QC, will serve to extend MDA’s market-leading geospatial data, products, and analytics services business well into the future.
MDA’s Satellite Systems group, based out of Montreal, QC, is also looking to onboard new staff to support recent project wins, including the development of one of the critical technology subsystems on Telesat Lightspeed, an advanced low Earth orbit satellite broadband network recently unveiled by Telesat, one of the world’s largest satellite operators. Telesat Lightspeed will deliver affordable, high-speed internet to every part of Canada and the world, to achieve universal connectivity for all.
