What sparked your interest in a career in interactive and emerging media?
The talented techno-creative people and leading-edge nature of the video game industry clenched it for me. I am passionate about providing opportunities to people to grow in the fantastic careers that our sector offers. And I love the fact that we are continually pushing the boundaries of technology and creativity.
Where do you think the video game industry is headed?
People of all ages and genders from all around the world are now playing video games and socializing with family and friends in doing so. Video games have become an integral part of our entertainment fabric and our sector is fast growing. In fact, according to Newzoo, the global video game market is on track to surpass a stunning USD 200B in 2023. Ontario has all it takes to leverage that growth, and own the next decade in the video game industry!
Why is this industry so important to Ontario’s economy and job creation in the province?
With over 250 studios, Ontario is home to the most video game companies in Canada. Our province’s industry incentives and favourable business environment has created one of the best jurisdictions worldwide for game studios. Ontario is a hub for one of the fastest-growing industries in Canada and between 2017-2019, our community grew +45%! We are proud of the diverse labour force, which is made up of highly skilled and educated creative and technical talent, and they are at the root of our international success.
