Mississauga’s innovative business community knows no bounds. It promotes innovation by bringing together creative minds to share ideas, concepts, thoughts, resources, and lessons, all in the name of collaboration. With this business community mindset, it’s no surprise that the city has been repeatedly recognized internationally for its ongoing investment in people, long-term growth, and economic success.

“Investing in people is the key to our success. In order to remain competitive, we must prepare our workforce for the jobs of tomorrow while properly matching business with talent. Companies such as Cognizant, a Fortune 500 tech company based in Mississauga, are leading the way with their innovative partnership with Seneca College. This synergy has helped foster a new training program to help upskill IT professionals and train students interested in pursuing careers in our growing tech sector. This partnership will also create local jobs by expanding access to qualified technology workers while boosting our city’s innovation capacity,” says Mayor Bonnie Crombie.

“There’s a reason why so many innovative companies have decided to call Mississauga home and join our network of creative thinkers, innovators, and entrepreneurs. We’ll continue to work closely with our partners to foster an innovative ecosystem so that Mississauga is not only a place where innovators can come up with the big ideas but where they can also bring them to life. Mark my words, Mississauga will become known as a global hub for innovation.”

Mississauga’s success has also attracted investments from the federal government, including a National Research Council (NRC) facility, a $25 million state-of-the-art innovation hub for advanced materials innovation and commercialization. It’s a prime location where people can meet and take their business concept to the next level. The facility is set to open in fall 2019.

“We’re pleased to be one of the 23 NRC facilities across Canada and the only location in the Greater Toronto Area. An investment like this for Mississauga signals that we’re leaders in innovation,” says Bonnie Brown, Director of Economic Development. “We’re continually looking for creative ways to improve our city and to provide the right infrastructure for companies, businesses, students, community partners, and talent to meet, innovate, and grow. This investment brings us even further in our journey.”

Mississauga is also home to the Xerox Research Centre of Canada, Research Innovation Commercialization (RIC) Centre, GreenCentre Canada, and the Ontario Centres of Excellence (OCE), all that are dedicated to helping start-up companies scale up and grow.
