The Petro-Points program has been helping Canadians save at the pump for nearly 30 years. It offers exceptional value today and has exciting plans ahead.

Many Canadians are feeling the pinch on their wallets lately. With inflation, interest rates, and the rising cost of living all creating a financial challenge for average working Canadians, there’s never been a better time to maximize the value you’re getting out of every dollar and be rewarded for your purchases. Free loyalty programs like Petro-Points are one of the easiest ways to make your dollars go further.

Over 25 years helping Canadians fuel more of what matters

Petro-Points is one of Canada’s top loyalty programs. Since 1995, the program has helped millions of Canadians get more value and rewards.

“The Petro-Points program provides rewards in a way that’s inherently Canadian, easy to understand, and focused on what our members value most,” says Jeff Gass, Loyalty Operations Lead at Suncor, Canada’s leading integrated energy company that owns Petro-Canada and runs the Petro-Points program. “We’re owned and operated by Canadians, for Canadians, with 1,500 locations coast-to-coast.”

With Petro-Points, members can earn and redeem points on gas, car washes, and more. “It’s pretty simple,” says Gass. “You earn 10 points per litre on fuel and 10 points for every dollar spent in-store. But that’s just the beginning.” Members also get access to exclusive contests and partner benefits. “We have a great partnership with RBC, and we’re excited to be working with Canadian Tire on a new loyalty offering launching in 2024.”

Petro-Points can be redeemed for savings at Petro-Canada — every 1,000 points equals $1 off. Car wash products, fuel savings cards, and e-gift cards from retailers like Best Buy and Apple are all popular rewards.

Meeting members’ evolving needs

From humble beginnings using paper cards to a smartphone-enabled app, the Petro-Points program continues to evolve. “We know Canadians’ expectations of loyalty programs are changing, and we plan to be here for the long run,” says Gass. “We’re mainly focused on two areas: personalizing how we reward our members and creating a more seamless digital experience.”

We know Canadians’ expectations of loyalty programs are changing, and we plan to be here for the long run.

Members who subscribe to emails get exclusive offers that aren’t widely available. “We’re always learning what our members value, and how they want to be recognized for their loyalty. Over time, members who engage with Petro-Points should start to feel that love.”

In 2019, the launch of the Petro-Canada app signaled a new way for Petro-Points members to earn and redeem points on the go. The app even allows members to start the pump or the car wash from the comfort of their vehicle — something appreciated during those colder winter months. With new features constantly in-development, expect to see even more reasons to use the Petro-Canada app in the coming year.

Maximizing your value

The partnerships Petro-Points has built enables members to save more than ever, which means they earn faster and get rewarded sooner.

“Members can link1 their account to an RBC debit or credit card and get a three cent per litre instant saving on top of earning 20 per cent more Petro-Points and Avion Rewards,” says Gass.

Recognizing and rewarding members will carry through into the new year, with the launch of a year-long contest aimed at helping customers fuel more memories. The more members use their card, the more entries and chances they’ll have to win one of 26 prizes of $10,000.

“Ultimately, signing up for Petro-Points is an easy way to reclaim the value you’re leaving on the table,” says Gass. “We’re excited about the future of the program, and we hope Canadians are too.”

How the Petro-Points Program Has Evolved Over Time

1995
